Occasionally people bemoan the lack of civility in politics these days and pine for a time when candidates from the two major parties fought a spirited but fair battle over important issues to hold this seat or that, then the winners laid down their swords and went off to Washington D.C. where they reached across the aisle in compromise to actually govern and enact legislation. The bills were never perfect and certainly not everything either side wanted, but by and large benefitted their constituents. Well, don’t listen to those moany, piney people because they’re off their rockers. In fact, unless they are elderly and/or heavily armed, you should slap them upside the head. Politics has always been little more than mud wrestling – albeit in nice suits and dresses – for the prizes of power and privilege. Oh, and money.
