Twenty-five years ago I wrote a very short, very silly piece that won a prize for most bizarre business idea at a most bizarre party. It sat collecting dust in a computer file until three years ago when I took a writing class and was tasked with creating a piece of flash fiction and telling the story from two different perspectives in two different ways. I cheated by using the prize-winning piece I wrote for the party but did succeed in producing two very different takes on the subject matter. Today is the first installment with the second version to follow in a week.
Bon Appétit!
Arnie Mather stopped a split second before getting rid of the pop-up ad and said it out loud, “oh my god, this is perfect!” He’d been at a loss for something new and fun to do with Jessica on their Saturday together, something that might make up for the fact he’d missed the last two visitations, and he was also hungry enough to eat a horse. Or a foal. He wondered how it was that he hadn’t heard about this joint yet and started scrolling.
The Bone Appétit Bistro & Petting Zoo
Kids love animals. Soft, furry, cuddly creatures of all kinds are enough to melt anyone’s heart, but they hold a special fascination for children. Any parent knows what joy the “petting zoo” can bring to a youngster as they roam freely, hugging and holding some of God’s most beautiful creations. And, let’s face it, most adults love to eat meat. One of life’s great pleasures and a prerogative of being at the top of the food chain is a gourmet meal prepared with the freshest possible ingredients. The Bone Appétit Bistro & Petting Zoo combines the best of both worlds to make a truly memorable experience that’s fun for the entire family.
