The first thing you notice when you walk onto a factory floor is that it’s loud. Which is why everyone is wearing ear protection. This common-sense precaution was mandated by OSHA only a couple of years before I started working at Continental Can Company in 1976, which would explain why everyone who’d worked there for more than a couple of years was stone deaf.
