It was a cold November day, the air heavy and pregnant with rain, a few stubborn leaves fluttering in the maple trees, and the dog park was empty. The rusty wire gate complained when she pushed it open, allowing an impatient Norwich terrier to begin finding a suitable place to relieve herself.
