So funny. My wife and I also availed ourselves of the services of a building maintenance man and a couple friends to build 3 large dressers and ended up paying more than if we'd bought the stuff assembled from Roche Bobois. And they broke a vase while doing it. Sigh.

After many nicked knuckles using the provided wrench, I finally hired a guy, pick at random from a list of close-by "technicians," to come and assemble the office storage cupboard delivered in a box. It was small, but I knew from experience that didn't mean simple. He arrived with a backpack looking like an underemployed college student, and went to work in our upstairs office. My husband can't help himself, but has to hover over work crews, which causes him to learn way too much about their private lives. Come to find out, the guy took the bus to our house because he doesn't have a car, and it would take him more than an hour to get home. You're probably not surprised that hubby ended up feeling sorry for the guy and how much money we were obliged to pay him, so he tipped him well, then drove him 5 miles to the bus transfer stop to shorten his trip home.
