You gotta read this!!!
That was the subject line and it pissed him off. Not because there was just a link and no howyadoins or beentoolongs or other banal chatter in the email, he was fine with that. It was the weighted imposition and breezy insistence that made his teeth grind. Worse yet, imbedded in the link’s byzantine string of URL coding was nytimes which meant it was a fascinating and erudite but verbose treatise on something super important. And since it came courtesy of his pedantic cousin Carl it was likely an op-ed piece on climate change, the polarization of politics, famine in sub-Saharan Africa, or the plight of women living under Sharia law. All subjects interested him mind you, but only in the form of journalistic Scooby snacks he could easily swallow and digest, and only if he was hungry. He hurled a demeaning epithet in Carl’s general direction and kept scrolling.
