Can I tell you something?
The first time I was eligible to vote was in 1976 and I did my small part to help install a peanut farmer in the White House. I remember feeling muddled with giddy excitement and sober responsibility as I marked my ballot, cognizant I was now a member of the electorate and an active participant in the world’s greatest democracy.
I’m not saying my first vote was a waste, but James Earl Carter was a disappointingly weak and ineffective President. It wasn’t entirely his fault, if at all, but his single term was marked by a huge energy crisis which caused Americans to sit in long lines at gas stations and run out of gas while they were waiting to get gas
